1. What inspired you to establish DetectifAI, and what customer or market problem were you determined to solve?

Tarini Sai Padmanabhuni:

DetectifAI started from a very personal experience because my grandfather became a victim of a deepfake scam, and watching someone so close to me get deceived made me realize that AI-generated fraud wasn’t a futuristic problem but was already affecting real families.

I’ve been working with machine learning since I was in sixth grade and understood both the incredible potential of AI and the risks that come with it. I began researching deepfake detection, especially in audio, and soon realized there was a much larger global problem to solve.

Today, AI-generated voices can imitate almost anyone with alarming accuracy. Fraudsters are using them for financial scams, identity theft, customer impersonation, and social engineering attacks. DetectifAI was created to build practical, lightweight AI systems that can detect these threats before they cause harm. Our mission is simple: to help people and organizations trust what they hear in an AI-powered world.

As per the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report, AI-enabled misinformation and disinformation are among the world’s most significant emerging risks. Even Deloitte and Gartner have highlighted synthetic media as a growing cybersecurity challenge.

I’ve also learned the importance of community. Throughout my journey, I’ve benefited from incredible support from founders, researchers, mentors, and the broader startup ecosystem across India and internationally.

10. Looking ahead, what innovations can we expect from DetectifAI, and how do you envision strengthening digital trust globally?

Tarini Sai Padmanabhuni:

Our long-term vision is ambitious but very clear. Just as Dolby became synonymous with audio quality, we want DetectifAI to become synonymous with audio trust.

We’re building lightweight foundational models capable of running directly on mobile devices, making deepfake protection accessible to everyone rather than only large enterprises.

We’re also exploring partnerships with device manufacturers because we believe trust should be built into digital experiences from the moment someone picks up their phone.
