Q1. You have an impressive track record as an inventor and entrepreneur. What was the defining moment that led to the creation of On2Cook?
SS: For me, the turning point came from simply observing how time is spent in kitchens. Growing up, I watched my mother—a full-time schoolteacher—devoting nearly every non-teaching hour to cooking. When I later worked abroad, I saw a stark contrast: households elsewhere finished kitchen work in a fraction of that time. That imbalance convinced me technology had to shoulder the heavy lifting, especially for the multi-step, spice-rich routines of Indian and broader Asian cuisine.
Our very first prototype was hardly elegant: an 8-kilogram lid you could barely position on a pot. Yet the moment it finished a batch of cabbage in record time, I knew the concept would fly. Securing a U.S. patent—despite experts insisting “microwaves are old news” and someone must have done it already—reinforced that conviction and gave us the courage to press on.
Bridging Tradition with Technology
Q2. Your cooking device blends conventional and modern methodologies. How did you manage to integrate these seamlessly while maintaining the authenticity of traditional cooking?
SS: To me, cooking has two parallel missions. One is flavour infusion—marinating, blooming masalas, layering aromatics. The other is precise transformation of proteins, carbohydrates, and vegetables while protecting heat-sensitive vitamins like C and B. Our device tackles the second mission with hybrid microwave-induction heat that finishes food rapidly, using little or no added water, so nutrients stay intact and colours stay vivid. Meanwhile, the first mission—the artistry of spices and slow flavour build—remains entirely in the cook’s hands. Technology guarantees perfect doneness; tradition supplies the soul. The result tastes exactly as your grandmother intended, only faster and with far better nutrient retention.

Q3. From an idea sparked by a simple attempt to cook cabbage faster to a globally recognized patented product—what were some key milestones in On2Cook’s journey?
SS: The first big break came when Brinc Food Technology Accelerator in Hong Kong took us under its wing. Their program opened my eyes to global cooking trends and alternative heat technologies—and, crucially, gave us funding to build the first prototype. The second milestone was winning both U.S. and U.K. patents, which confirmed we truly were pushing new ground and could scale internationally.
From there it became a relentless cycle of test, fail, improve—fifteen full generations of prototypes, each wrestling with the same fundamental challenge: delicate electronics hate 200 °C kitchen environments. Week after week we burned boards, rewrote firmware, rebuilt housings, and kept going. That “fail-fast, never-quit” rhythm is what finally delivered a reliable, manufacturable product.
The Consumer Pain Point
Q4. What key consumer challenges does On2Cook solve, and how did you identify these pain points?
SS: COVID unexpectedly accelerated our learning curve. With restaurants half-shuttered, we deployed test units in more than 20 kitchens across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Hong Kong, and China. Two insights hit hardest.
First, labour churn—often 300 % a year—makes it nearly impossible for Indian chains to guarantee consistent food. Many are true one-pot formats, so even someone who has never cooked can simply measure the ingredients, follow the two-step prompt on the app, listen to the spoken cues from the device, and watch dinner materialise.
Yet written guidance alone is never enough. I insist on live demos—whether for a home cook or a seasoned hotel chef—because tasting the result is what converts curiosity into conviction. When they handle the unit themselves, plate the food, and discover it matches or betters their benchmark, adoption becomes self-propelling.

Add to that a 70 % cut in cook-time and a 50 % drop in energy draw, and you have food that is both healthier for the diner and lighter on the planet’s grid.

Q7. Your product gained massive attention on Shark Tank India. How did that experience impact On2Cook’s brand awareness and customer engagement?
SS: The Shark Tank India episode—three years ago now—was a superb loud-hailer. Overnight we found ourselves fielding thousands of B2C enquiries. But professional kitchens still buy with their palate, not their television, so we moved straight into trade-show galleys and on-site trials. The show created the buzz; a tasting menu continues to close the deals.
AI & Smart Cooking Experience
Q8. With its AI-based and app-connected features, how does On2Cook enhance the overall cooking experience for users?
SS: I want the final consumer version to feel like talking to an old family cook who somehow knows everything. You will speak to the device—“make two bowls of dal tadka”—and it will recognise what you have added, measure the quantities internally, and guide you conversationally through anything that still needs the human hand. Scales, timers, even recipe-scrolling disappear; the appliance does the thinking while you enjoy the process.
Customer Feedback & Future Enhancements
Q9. What kind of feedback have you received from customers so far? Are there any planned enhancements or new features based on their insights?
SS: Field deployments taught us quickly that Indian voltage swings can be brutal, so we redesigned the power boards for wider tolerances. Every new client brings regional tastes, and our chef team—from Tamil Nadu to Punjab—folds those requests into fresh auto-cook profiles that drop into the cloud library overnight. The next frontier is deeper automation and personalisation: the system will soon learn your preferred spice level and doneness the way a longtime house cook would.
Scaling & Expansion Plans
Q10. With a recent ₹17 Crore seed funding round and a ₹100 Crore valuation, what’s next for On2Cook? Are there plans to expand internationally or explore partnerships?
SS: That initial ₹17 crore seed round is ancient history; subsequent raises have already doubled the valuation, and we are mid-raise again. The roadmap is clear: presence in ten countries within three years and distributors in one-hundred countries by 2030. A U.S. distribution agreement is signed and awaiting public release, GCC partners are stocking inventory, and regional distributors across India’s south, east, and central zones are coming online now. In short, we intend to redefine how the world cooks—at scale, and at speed.
And of course, expansion is also under way. The U.S. partnership announcement is imminent, GCC distributors are active, and domestic coverage is filling out region by region. Each partnership is chosen for its ability to deliver the same live-demo, taste-first introduction that proved so powerful at home. It is only a matter of timing now—execution, not exploration.
